A low FODMAP diet was created by researchers at Monash University in Australia. FODMAPs are short chain carbohydrates and sugar alcohols found in foods. FODMAPs include fructose when in excess of glucose, fructans, galacto-oligosaccharides, lactose and polyols. Following a low FODMAP diet has been known to help people with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) as well as some other gastrointestinal issues.
